This is a very common question that we, at\u00a0TheLorry<\/a> come across when our customers want to rent a lorry.<\/p>\r\n\r\n

If we have used lorry services before, it’s easier for us to “budget” what lorry size is suitable for our moving needs.<\/p>\r\n\r\n

However, if you do not have experience moving, we can help you.<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Here are some tips to select the correct lorry size and type to be rented.<\/p>\r\n\r\n

1. King size bed frames and mattresses do not fit in a 1 tonne lorry<\/strong><\/h2>\r\n\r\n

Ever started loading boxes into a van only to realize it\u2019s too small? Choosing the right lorry type and size can save you time, money, and stress. You\u2019ll avoid mid-move swaps, elevated costs, or last-minute chaos. Think of your move like a puzzle\u2014measure your largest pieces first, then fill in the gaps. Let\u2019s decode the right fit for your move. Do you have a king size bed to be moved? If that is the case, we recommend renting a 3 tonne lorry (at least 14 feet).<\/p>\r\n\r\n

This is because a king size bed measures 6 feet x 6 feet.<\/p>\r\n\r\n

The width and height of a 1 tonne lorry is 5 feet x 5 feet.<\/p>\r\n\r\n

That won’t fit!<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

2. A 3 + 2 + 1 Sofa Set will occupy half the space of a 1 tonne lorry<\/strong><\/h2>\r\n\r\n

Get the tape measure ready! Key items like king beds, sofa sets, and wardrobes define the lorry size you need. For instance, a king bed (6′ x 6′) simply won\u2019t fit inside a 1-tonne model with a 5′ width. But it would on a 3-tonne 14-foot lorry. By comparing your biggest items to the vehicle specs, you can minimize trial-and-error. The remainder of the space can be filled by one of the following:<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

  1. 1x small book shelf + 1x 4 seater dining table (dismantled)<\/li>\r\n
  2. 1x single bed (dismantled) + 5-10x boxes<\/li>\r\n
  3. 1x refrigerator + 1x washing machine<\/li>\r\n
  4. Anything else similar to the above<\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\n\r\n

    3. Wardrobe\/Cupboard Height<\/strong><\/h2>\r\n\r\n

    The first thing you have to consider is the width of the doorways in your house. Secondly, you have to consider if the cupboard\/wardrobe can be safely moved using the stairs (assuming it does not fit into the elevator)<\/p>\r\n\r\n

    Will the cupboard\/wardrobe fit through the doorways vertically or horizontally?<\/p>\r\n\r\n
